Position: Art Teacher (Enrichment)

In 2011, University Prep opened the doors to its first elementary campus. Fast forward 14 years and our
founding scholars are now enrolled in their first and second year of post-secondary programming. With nearly
90% of U Prep alumni on track for post-secondary success, U Prep is living its mission. Our scholars represent
a 3X difference when compared with their peer group statewide (less than 30% are earning a degree or

Our Investment in You:
Our compensation and benefits package includes, but is not limited to the following:

• Up to $ 8,000 in moving stipends and signing bonuses.
• Highly competitive salary within the local market.
  • $55,000 – $75,000 starting salary.
  • New to U Prep teachers have a starting salary dependent on years of teaching experience prior to joining the organization. We honor up to 10 years of previous teaching experience.
• 100% of medical benefit covered for all employees, and options to elect dental, vision, critical illness and accident benefits.
• Up to $600 in contributions to a personal wellness account.
• Participation in the Colorado PERA retirement program, including PERA 401K option.

this program from the ground up excites you and gives you energy.

What You’ll Do:

• Fully embody the mission and vision of University Prep along with the organization’s core values.
• Create a visual arts enrichment program for scholars in grades K – 5 that aligns with state and national
  standards (involving a range of mediums – drawing (with pencil, charcoal, pastels, etc.), painting
  (tempera, acrylic, water color, etc.), sculpture, mixed media projects (i.e. collage), etc.).
• Establish and maintain a warm, safe and focused learning environment that further strengthens whole
  school culture and aligns with core classroom experiences across the building.
• Ensure all scholars are meaningfully exposed to the visual arts (2-D and 3-D), gaining both an interest
  in the arts and a set of foundational skills/knowledge to carry forward into middle school and beyond.
• Write and execute lesson plans that are highly engaging for scholars, promoting artistic expression and
  creativity while driving technical skill development.
• Instruct scholars in proper care and use of tools and equipment, further elevating the PREP value of
  Responsibility, which is central to the school’s character development efforts.
• Assess scholar artwork and provide constructive feedback to help children improve their skills and
  techniques. Evaluate student performance based on criteria such as creativity, craftsmanship,
  composition, and understanding of artistic concepts.
• Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and
  to minimize time required for distribution and collection.
• Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to celebrate scholars’ work for the school and
  broader community.
• Work closely with an instructional leader to continually improve teaching craft – enhancing both
  planning efforts to drive exceptional lessons and execution efforts to improve lesson delivery.
• Communicate regularly and proactively with team members and scholars’ families, ensuring everyone is
  “rowing together” in alignment with the mission and vision of the school, especially in situations where a
  scholar may need additional supports.
• Actively participate in all professional development and learning opportunities, demonstrating a desire
  toward continual improvement and learning.
• Continuously use feedback from leaders, colleagues and families to make productive changes in
  instructional practices and overall performance.
• Complete all administrative requirements before given deadlines.
• Participate in additional activities including field trips, intensive academic support sessions, and other
  required programs as needed throughout year to best serve our children and community.

  starting their educational journey and can all meet/exceed high behavioral expectations that support

• Proven track record of successfully designing and implementing an arts education program at the
  elementary school level that leads to high levels of scholar engagement and excitement for the arts.
• Minimum of two years working in public education and preference for candidates who have a history of
  not only working in urban communities, but in driving significant gains in student growth &
  achievement.
• Demonstration of cultural competence and a humility/commitment to continue growing in this area.
• Openness to feedback and a strong desire for continual growth and development as a professional.
• Willingness to take full responsibility for scholar outcomes.
• Ability to work full-time, including some evenings and weekends along with a “whatever it takes”
  disposition given the responsibilities of a leader to drive game changing results.
• Excellent verbal and written skills.
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (required)
• Bilingual - English/Spanish (preferred)
