Work Locationhybrid Expected duration6 months Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Global Asset Management Policy Service in the Field Operations Finance Division oversees and provides guidance on the planning, design, and implementation of major construction projects within the UN Global Secretariat. The Service supports the UN’s budgetary committees such as the ACABQ and the Fifth Committee by coordinating and providing necessary inputs. Additionally, the Service supports project staff in the implementation of global capital construction projects, covering areas such as cost management, time management, scope management, and risk management. The Service works with the broader Secretariat entities on policies on rental income, lease administration, space utilization, flexible workplace, facilities improvement and maintenance and long-term capital planning. Responsibilities We are seeking highly motivated individuals who wish to gain professional experience in project management and reporting, administrative procedures and practices, and broader data analysis within an international organization in order to supplement their studies. The successful candidate will work with the team on the planning and implementation of major construction projects as well as alternation and improvement projects within the UN Global Secretariat. The individual will also assist the team in drafting guidance documents, capturing lessons learned, and overseeing budgetary aspects related to facilities and infrastructure of UN Secretariat entities. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: - Research and document project data, processes, policies, and best practices in construction management. - Draft and prepare reports, guidelines, and presentations. - Support knowledge management by capturing lessons learned, preparing official documents and drafting clear and concise meeting notes. - Provide logistical and administrative support for hybrid meetings. - Coordinate with other UN offices and sections. Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS Excel and MS Power Point. Good data visualization and presentation skills are desirable. Academic training in architecture, engineering, construction management, etc. is desirable. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Additional InformationVisa and Work Authorization Mandatory Requirements: For in-person internships in the United States of America, persons who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or on another non-immigrant visa status (such as F-1 or J-1 visa), will be required to obtain a G-4 visa for a full-time (at least 35 hours per week) internship. Candidates who are on a non-immigrant visa status as students such as F-1 or J-1 visa with an employment authorization will only be able to intern on a part-time basis. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
