Job Description

Lighthouse Lab Services is currently representing an innovative start-up clinical laboratory in the Boston area, preparing to launch operations and deliver high-quality diagnostic testing services. We are looking for a hands-on, resourceful, and adaptable Lab Manager to help build and manage this laboratory from the ground up. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in establishing workflows, selecting equipment, and creating a high-performing team.

Position Summary
The Lab Manager will oversee all day-to-day operations of the laboratory, ensuring compliance with CLIA, CAP, and other applicable regulatory requirements. As the first hire for the lab, this individual will be directly involved in setting up the lab space, establishing SOPs, validating equipment, ordering supplies, and preparing for inspections. Once the lab is operational, the Lab Manager will recruit, train, and supervise laboratory staff while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.

Role Overview
The Lab Manager will be responsible for setting up and managing the daily operations of this new laboratory. This is a foundational role that will require wearing multiple hats—from ordering equipment and developing SOPs to performing hands-on work with instruments. As the lab’s first hire, the Lab Manager must be comfortable operating independently and helping to build the infrastructure for future growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance, inventory management, and ordering supplies.

  • Establish, document, and maintain SOPs, safety protocols, and compliance standards (OSHA, CLIA, CAP, or applicable regulatory bodies).

  • Manage vendor relationships and coordinate equipment installation, calibration, and service.

  • Perform hands-on laboratory work, including flow cytometry operation, calibration, and data acquisition .

  • Support assay development, optimization, and validation as needed.

  • Maintain meticulous records of laboratory activities and quality control.

  • Collaborate with leadership to plan lab space layout and workflows for efficiency and compliance.

  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training future technical staff as the team expands.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Biology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, or related field.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience with flow cytometry , including instrument operation, troubleshooting, and data analysis.

  • Prior lab management or supervisory experience strongly preferred.

  • Hands-on experience in a regulated laboratory environment (startup experience a plus).

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize in a dynamic setting.

  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects from start to finish.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
