Position: Lead Medical Technologist – Core Lab
Location: Charlottesville, VA
Shift: Day; Monday – Friday
Compensation Range: $24.72 – $39.55 Hourly
Overview:
Under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager or Assistant Manager, the Lead Medical Technologist is responsible for planning, maintaining, and monitoring all functions within a defined scope of testing in the Core Laboratory. This position ensures compliance with all standards set forth by CAP, TJC, CMS, and AABB, while also providing leadership and technical expertise to laboratory staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure all policies, procedures, and manuals are current, accurate, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
Provide leadership and direction to staff in meeting compliance requirements for federal, state, and accreditation standards.
Develop and implement effective programs for continuous quality improvement and systems enhancement in collaboration with management and staff.
Maintain appropriate inventories and oversee effective use of supplies and reagents.
Define and monitor pre- and post-analytical specimen processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
Serve as primary trainer and mentor to new and existing laboratory staff, supporting skill development and professional growth.
Provide area-specific support and direction for clinical activities to ensure optimal laboratory performance.
Participate in problem-solving, performance improvement, and operational planning to advance laboratory services.
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree with completion of a NAACLS-approved MLS/CLS program; OR
Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related science; OR
Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from a NAACLS-approved MLT program; OR
Associate Degree or 60 semester hours including 6 hours in Chemistry and 6 hours in Biology plus accredited MLT training.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years relevant clinical laboratory experience required.
Licensure/Certification:
MLT, MT, or categorical ASCP certification (or equivalent) preferred.
